Originally from Winnipeg, MB. Alex Black fell in love with Vancouver upon his inaugural visit and decided on moving to the West Coast after his second visit during the 2010 Winter Games. Leaving behind years of management experience Alex’s passion for being behind the bar was re-ignited within British Columbia’s world class bar community. Working his way through many of Vancouver’s top tier locations including properties under the Donnelly and Glowbal umbrellas as well as Hawksworth, Boulevard, the famous Gerard Room in the Sutton Place Hotel and the Vancouver Club.
Alex has spent much of his time as a hospitality professional accumulating accolades, awards and certifications from multiple bodies including the International Sommelier’s Guild and the Beverage Alcohol Resource Group, he is a Certified Specialist in Spirits as appointed by the Society of Wine Educators and graduated from Pernod Ricard and Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne’s Maison Program. When he’s not behind a bar Alex spends time as a Portfolio Ambassador for the Canadian owned and operated Sovereign Wine & Spirits distribution company and sits on the Canadian Professional Bartender’s Association board as their Director of Communications. Alex’s goal as a bartender is to provide a world class experience, he attempts to do so by being educated on every aspect of the bartenders role as a host and his role as a craftsman when it comes to creating both new drinks and classics alike.
